Stergios Fotopoulos

Researcher

Personal Description

I am intrigued by the notion of Public Sphere, the theories of Democracy, and the process of European integration. My present research focuses on the Spitzenkandidat process, the politicisation of the EU, and the European Public Sphere. I am passionate about the ongoing discussion on the Future of Europe, European politics, and citizens’ participation in the EU decision-making.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Media and Communication studies from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a master’s degree in European studies from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and a master’s degree in Communication studies from the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. I am currently finishing my Ph.D. at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, while I am working as information and communication agent at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication.
