Personal Description

Lotte Vermeire is a junior researcher at imec-SMIT, VUB since October 2020. Her research is focused on digital and data literacy and digital inclusion in education (formal and non-formal).  Currently, she works on the DataBuzz- and the Digital Youth Work-projects. The DataBuzz is a technological, mobile education lab in the form of a 100% electric bus that has various new educational technologies, such as touchscreens and iMotions. The interactive workshops focus is on data literacy and the students learn about privacy and online identity, artificial intelligence, etc. whilst working on their critical and computational thinking skills. The Digital Youth Work-project aims to give a comprehensive overview of digital youth work in Flanders and maps its challenges and opportunities, which is then translated into best practices and policy recommendations.

Lotte obtained a Master of Arts in Linguistics and Literary Studies at the VUB (2018) with distinction. However she was greatly interested in the impact of new and online media and digitization and went on to study journalism. In 2019 she graduated with distinction with a Master in Journalism at the VUB and due to her strong interest in education, she went on to obtain an Educational Master with great distinction (VUB, 2020). Lotte has an interest in interdisciplinary research and attaches value to research that can have a true societal impact, thus she strives every day for a positive influence within her work.
