Frederic Heymans is a research and project officer at the Knowledge Centre Data & Society and imec-SMIT-VUB. Within the Knowledge Centre, Frederic’s primary focus lies in policy analysis and policy prototyping. Frederic is currently also involved in the sustAIn.brussels project, an urban initiative that supports Brussels businesses in their transition to using innovative technologies and artificial intelligence.
Prior to working at SMIT, Frederic worked as an editor for the Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg and as a communication officer for various organizations, including the Belgian policy think tank Itinera and the Flemish umbrella organisation for engineers ie-net.
Frederic holds a master’s degree in Communication Sciences (New Media and Society in Europe) from the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. His thesis analyzed the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the start-up ecosystem in Cape Town, South Africa. Frederic also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism (PXL Hasselt).
