Personal Description
Frederic Heymans works as a research and project officer for the Knowledge Centre Data & Society at imec-SMIT-VUB. He joined his colleagues after finishing his studies in 2020. He works on various projects that translate the impact of AI systems on society into practical and usable tools. His other tasks include drafting reports and various publications, tailored to the Knowledge Centre’s target groups.
Prior to working at SMIT, Frederic worked as an editor for the Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg and as a communication officer for various organizations, including the Belgian policy think tank Itinera and the Flemish umbrella organisation for engineers ie-net.
Frederic holds a master’s degree in Communication Sciences (New Media and Society in Europe) from the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. His thesis analyzed the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the start-up ecosystem in Cape Town, South Africa. Frederic also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism (PXL Hasselt).
