August Bourgeus

August is a researcher at imec-SMIT-VUB as a member of the Data, Government and Communities (DGC) Unit. He holds a Master in Business Engineering: Data Analytics from the University of Ghent (2020). His master’s thesis involved research on decentralized identity and citizens vaults using Solid technology. He investigated the potential of giving citizens control over their personal data and thus rethinking the government-to-citizen relationship (G2C). At imec-SMIT-VUB, he will work on how citizens perceive data vaults and how to make data handling more transparent.

In September 2020, August obtained a 1-year research scholarship from the Collegio dei Fiamminghi at the University of Bologna. He joined imec-SMIT-VUB in January 2022.
