SNIPPET
Secure and Privacy-Friendly Peer-To-Peer Electricity Trading
Project Description
SNIPPET is an interdisciplinary project which adopts a holistic approach in designing and testing p2p electricity trading markets. It takes into account not only the technical challenges such as secure and privacy-friendly data transmission/processing/storage and electrical grid’s stability maintenance but also the business and legal challenges such as ensuring a sustainable business model for all market players and complying with existing (and future) regulations such as General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 – GDPR) and the Winter package.
Role of SMIT
Within the project, SMIT investigates how digitalization can transform an institutionalized industry setting. More specifically we look at the emergence and scale-up of business ecosystems in regulated industries. Therefore we will analyse existing trading mechanisms and future scenarios for p2p electricity markets, assess the current energy market value networks and identify new activities and emerging roles for the P2P market. Next, we research and define the structure of P2P electricity trading ecosystem, co-innovation and adoption chain risks. Finally, SMIT will also analyze the impacts of P2P trading on the electricity trading business ecosystem as well as actors’ business models.
