Olga Van Oost obtained a Phd in Communication Studies at the Free University of Brussels in 2009 entitled The Museum Question: a study of the art museum concept in modernity from a theoretical and historical perspective and a comparative analysis of museum policies in Flanders and the Netherlands and casestudies (in Dutch). She holds master degrees in Art History & Archaeology and in Communication Studies.
Olga worked as a teaching assistent and researcher at the Department of Communication Studies and from 2009 on, she works at SMIT as a senior researcher on projects related to digital culture and heritage. Olga also works for FARO, the Flemish Interface for Cultural Heritage, where she is involved in projects on digital heritage and archiving (Archipel) and on the future of cultural heritage (Prisma).
Her research focus is transitions in the fields of museums (galleries) and cultural heritage (institutions and policy) in late modernity and in the network society. Other research areas: theoretical museum and heritage studies, (digital) arts and the role of the artist in a digital world; (digital) heritage and youth.
