Personal Description

Documentaries about people and stories you would never encounter otherwise, such as ‘Dark Days’ (Marc Singer) or ‘Grizzly Man’ (Werner Herzog), have always attracted me. After working at a documentary festival and a distribution organization for documentaries, I finally found my place at SMIT where I now have the opportunity to research the documentary ‘industry’ in Europe. I combine policy and market research, through both expert interviews, quantitative data analysis and document analysis.

As a member of the advisory committee of the project “European documentary in a changing media landscape – bringing together policy & practice” of the European Documentary Network (EDN), I had the opportunity to speak about the difficult relationship between public broadcasters and documentary professionals at the Copenhagen Documentary Festival CPH:DOX 2015, and to meet international documentary experts at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA). I graduated in 2012 in Media & Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and joined SMIT in 2014 as a PhD student and teaching assistant (VUB).
