I am an academic entrepreneur with an established track record in initiating and scaling up international technology projects, programmes, and companies. I am an expert in Service Science and data-driven innovation with experience across a broad range of sectors including smart cities, telecom, IoT, semantic web, eHealth, etc. I have an outstanding track record in attracting funding for RDI projects both nationally and internationally.
I am currently managing the global OASC smart city network and am one of the founders of the IMEC City of Things infrastructure in Antwerp. My company Meersman & Partners specialises in RDI funding acquisition and its activities have helped several clients grow from the startup stage to mature operations employing many (e.g. Collibra, Rombit, iChoosr). Currently, I am involved in startup incubators and accelerators as a judge and mentor and am a speaker and advisor on smart city related technologies and innovation. I am an Ambassador of the International Society of Service Innovation Professionals founded by HP, Cisco, and IBM, and hold a PhD in Information Systems from Curtin University, Perth, Australia.
