| Jan Loisen studied media studies at the Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel - VUB) and obtained his PhD in 2009. His doctoral research focussed on the development of an institutionalist and political economic framework to analyse the World Trade Organization's impact on audiovisual policy. In preparing his PHD, Jan has worked as a teaching assistant at the VUB's communication sciences department and at SMIT since 2001. Currently, he is a senior researcher at the Flemish Centre for International Policy for the research track on 'Cultural Diversity and Subsidiarity'. In this research project, opportunities, barriers and bottlenecks are investigated to develop a culturally diverse and economically sustainable Flemish media policy within an international multilevel governance policy context (WTO-UNESCO-EU). Jan's main research interests and expertise concern audiovisual and media policy (national, European and global), World Trade Organization policy (for audiovisual services and media), the Unesco Convention on Cultural Diversity, Cultural Industries, International Relations Theory, (International) Political Economy, and Information Society Theory. |
