ROB HEYMAN
Researcher
Rob Heyman has studied 6 years at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and got a masters degree in both philosophy and communication sciences in 2010. His master thesis of philosophy was about ‘emergence’, an ontology and epistemology of the concept and his master thesis of communication sciences was about online privacy and the way this was perceived in new theories and in a small group of students.
In December 2010, Rob will start his PhD as a Junior Researcher in EMSOC. The main goal of the EMSOC project is to critically assess to what extent and how people are empowered or disempowered by their everyday use of social media. Rob will specifically be working on a user centered approach to privacy in social media.
Rob was already familiar with SMIT, he already did an internship in the summer of 2009. During his internship he researched the complex relation between consumer privacy and direct marketing.
Currently he holds the position of Junior Researcher in the GO cluster of SMIT. This means that he will be doing user research mostly. For the moment he is involved in the following projects: OMUS and DIY, but he is doing some preliminary work for soon-to-start projects EMSOC and SPION.
