Prof. dr. Wendy Van den Broeck
Senior Researcher
Wendy Van den Broeck joined SMIT in 2003. She is head of the user research unit at SMIT and also leads the Media research team within the user research unit. Her research expertise is user experience and quality of experience of audiovisual services (i.e. interactive digital television, 2nd screen, online video consumption) and the domestication of new media technologies in a home context. Her recent projects relate to the use and quality perception of video streaming (iMinds V-force project), 2nd screen applications for live events (MIX LISSA project) and Media ID.
She is also a professor at the communications studies department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She teaches the course Advanced Methods for Communication Studies and the specialised track on user studies in the international master program New Media and Society in Europe. In the Flemish program she is a substitute professor for the courses ‘Ontwikkeling, gebruik en beleid van nieuwe media’ (BA3) and ‘Werkcollege Media, strategische communicatie en marketing (BA3). She is also promoter of several bachelor- and master theses.

Her academic background is a master in communication sciences (VUB-2002), a postgraduate diploma in management and economics (VUB-Solvay-2003), a teaching degree (VUB-2003) and a PhD in communication sciences (VUB-December 2010) – title: "From analogue to digital: the silent (r)evolution? A qualitative study on the domestication of interactive digital television in Flanders.
