Vânia Gonçalves graduated in Informatics and Computer Engineering (University of Porto) and holds a master degree in Technology Policy (University of Cambridge).
Vânia worked previously at the European Commission, DG Information Society, in the areas of ITIL, information security policy, internet governance and Critical Information Infrastructure Protection. Before that, she worked in the telecommunications sector as Networking and Security Engineer and as Enterprise Management Consultant at Mainroad Portugal, and held technical responsibilities at the University of Porto. In 2000, she also co-founded Netcode, a firm specialised in web platforms.
Vânia joined SMIT in May 2008 and conducts research on business model analysis and policy issues surrounding media and ICT, with particular focus on mobile communication markets and spectrum management. She has been involved in several national IBBT-projects and european-level FP7 projects related to cognitive radio systems, self-organising networks, wireless sensor networks, cloud computing platforms and mobile operator service platforms.
