Tim Raats
Researcher
Tim graduated magna cum laude in Communication Sciences at the Free University of Brussels. In his master thesis he analysed and evaluated the European support mechanisms for the television production sector in Flanders. During his studies, he did an internship for the European Producers association ‘Eurocinema’. In 2007, he joined SMIT as a junior researcher, where he has been working on the iMinds-project PoKuMOn. In 2008, Tim started working as a PhD aspirant for FWO-Vlaanderen, conducting research on the role of Public Service Broadcasting in a networked media ecology. In his PhD, Tim aims to conceptualise Public Service Media’s role as a platform, as an indispensable link in a networked constellation, by setting out from an analysis of PSB’s past, current and future cultural remit. Tim’s scientific fields of interest include various Public Service broadcasting issues: independent production and commissioning, partnership strategies, intellectual property issues and the incorporation of the audience as genuine stakeholder for Public broadcasters. Tim is also student assistant for the Media Economy and Media Policy courses in 2nd Bachelor at the Free University of Brussels.
