Heritiana Ranaivoson studied Economics and Management at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (ENS Cachan) and got a Master of Research in Industrial Economics at Université Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne. In 2008 he got a PhD in Economics (Université Paris 1). His thesis dealt with « « market structure and diversity production. The case of the recording industry », received very honourable mention with the congratulations of the jury and was proposed for publication.
From 2003 to 2008 he was successively PhD student and lecturer (ATER) at Université Paris 1. From 2008 to 2010 he was associate researcher at Cerna, the Centre for Industrial Economics at Mines ParisTech. Since April 2010 he has joined as a Senior Researcher iMinds-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He takes part to projects including CoMobile, SoLoMIDEM and BEMES.
His research and teaching fields include media economics, cultural diversity and the impact of digital technologies on the media and cultural industries. He has collaborated to researches on the behalf of the Unesco and the European Commission and has published papers in journals such as Innovation: Management, Policy & Practice, the Unesco Institute for Statistics Technical Paper, the ENCATC Journal of Cultural Management and Policy, Observatorio, Revue Française de Socio-Economie, Hermès and the Review of Economic Research on Copyright Issues. He has been a visiting lecturer in the universities of Paris 1, Lyon 3, Senghor (Egypt), Paris 8, Science-Po Lille, Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis (Belgium) and at Ina Sup.
He was a member of the Unesco Expert Group on the Statistical measurement of the diversity of cultural expressions (2007-2011) and has been since 2008 member of the U40-Capacity Building Programme „Cultural Diversity 2030“.
