Gert currently coordinates the research projects regarding e-culture within SMIT. More particularly these projects are related to the transformation of the cultural domain due to the use and implementation of new media.
In that function he was and is involved in several ICT-projects in the domain of arts and cultural heritage in Flanders. Some of these projects have a direct link with the sustainable preservation and distribution of digital cultural heritage (a.o. Erfgoed 2.0, Bom-Vlaanderen, EPICS, Archipel, Financing models for the digitisation of cultural heritage in Flanders, Feasability study for the creation of a Flemish horizontal cross sectoral metadata aggregator). His role in these project varied from project coordination to research activities.
Gert has presented papers and published about this theme at several national and international conferences, journals and books. He is member of the Prisma Klankbordgroep (sector analysis and future scenarios for the domain of cultural heritage in Flanders), and was member of the working group e-culture and digitisation in the context of the Culture Forum of the Flemish Minister for Culture Schauvliege.
