Chris Vleugels holds a Master Degree in Sociology (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, 2006) with specialisations in Theoretical Sociology and Sociology of Culture and Education.

In October 2006, Chris joined SMIT as a Researcher in the e-culture cluster. He was active in several interdisciplinary projects regarding new and emerging technologies and applications within the cultural field (CUPID, MuTable). He was also involved in the European research project DIGITAS on media education and lifelong learning. Between 2006-2007 he was involved in TIRO, a Belgian research project on teenagers and ICT.

Currently, Chris is a member of the Internet Policy cluster where he focuses on the possible role of new media in increasing public support for development (PULSE). Chris’ research interests are situated in the field of ICT for development (ICT4D), sociology of youth, media literacy, e-culture, qualitative research, and online ethnography.
