IBBT-SMIT LECTURE SERIES 2011-2012 and its research group Digital Arts, in cooperation with Kultuurkaffee, warmly invite you to the opening lecture of Het Grote Ongeduld!Xtra, a platform for graduate students in multimedia and experimental short film.
Conceived as an artist talk, film maker and visual artist Nicolas Provost ("Moving Stories", "Gravity, "The Invader",...) will discuss his work and its underlying concepts and ideas in the broader framework of cinematic grammar and the relation between film and the visual arts. Provost will be introduced by prof. dr. Willem Elias. Willem Elias is professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel as well as an art critic and chairman of HISK, Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten in Ghent. He teaches several courses on contemporary arts, arts education and cultural philosophy.
This lecture is closely related to the research activities of the Digital Arts research group, as it focuses on the intersection of culture, the arts and new media. Starting from the observation of actual transitions in society, such as creative economy, convergence culture and the expansion of virtual social worlds, Digital Arts researchers reflect on the position of the arts and culture in the network society and how static forms of creation, production, content, participation and policy are becoming hybrid.
