The Brussels Studies Institute (BSI) is a permanent academic structure, which functions as a research platform enabling contact and coordination between academic research teams and researchers focusing on the study of Brussels, with particular attention to the social and human sciences.
Joost Vaesen is the director of the Brussels Studies Institute. He obtained a Master in History at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2001. As of 2001, he is working on the political and institutional system in Brussels at BRIO. In 2008, he successfully defended his Ph.D. on the relationship between the different public administrations in Brussels.
