Karen Donders (iMinds-SMIT-VUB) presented her view on European public service media policies at a hearing in Stockholm
A group of six publishing and broadcasting companies and organisations – Bonnier, MTG Sweden, Schibsted Sweden, Mittmedia, Bauer Group and Tidningsutgivarna – have created a Public Service Broadcasting Commission that will evaluate the role of public service broadcasting in Sweden and present results from several hearings, discussions and Commission work in a report that will be made available to government and the wider public. Members are both academics and representatives of the private media sector.
On 27 January the Commission organized a hearing, discussing about European Public Service Media policies and experiences in Western and Northern European countries. Prof. Dr. Karen Donders, head of SMIT's Policy Research Unit, was asked to open the meeting presenting a bird's eye overview on Public Service Media policy approaches and instruments in Western and Northern Europe.
