SMIT co-organises open calls for Future Internet development
In the FIWARE programme, the European Commission has reserved a budget of €80 million to kick-start the development of Future Internet technologies in Europe. After creating the FIWARE toolbox, a set of open-source tools, it has set-up sixteen accelerators in different domains to invite SMEs throughout Europe to take these tools and create useful applications with them. ICT developers, web entrepreneurs, start-ups, spin-offs, basically everyone who qualifies as an SME, can receive funding to develop their idea. SMIT is involved in three of these accelerators.
An overview of FIWARE is given in the video below:
Essentially, FIWARE is an innovative, open cloud-based infrastructure for cost-effective creation and delivery of Future Internet applications and services, at a scale not seen before. FIWARE API specifications are public and royalty-free, driven by the development of an open source reference implementation, which accelerates the availability of commercial products and services based on FI-WARE technologies.
In the current phase of FIWARE, sixteen accelerator projects have been set-up, each with a different scope and application domain. Each accelerator has funding to provide to European SMEs with a novel idea, to stimulate their development. Apart from funding, these accelerators also offer business model clinics, rapid prototyping, living lab experimentation and networking opportunities.
As said, SMIT is involved in three of the accelerators:
- CreatiFI focuses on developers with ideas for creative industries, including media
- FI-C3 focuses on media, smart cities and e-health
- FInish focuses on agrifood, perishables and logistics
The open calls for these projects are currently open, so if you have a business idea that would fit into one of these sectors, do not hesitate to ask us for more information.
