Researchers of iMinds-SMIT-VUB win Best Paper Awards
iMinds-SMIT-VUB is proud to announce that several of our colleagues have won Best Paper Awards.

The field of Smart Cities is on the rise. This generates a lot of activity within iMinds in terms of projects and publications. In the past months, 3 Smart Cities papers by iMinds-SMIT-VUB won Best Paper Awards at three different conferences:

- The Elaine Lawrence Prize 2013 for the best paper of the 12th International Conference on Mobile Business (ICMB 2013) was awarded to Uschi Buchinger, Heritiana Ranaivoson and Pieter Ballon for their paper “From Loyalty Points to Virtual Currencies: Expanding Loyalty Schemes for Mobile Platforms”. The paper analyses how loyalty points are being expanded and transformed to Virtual currencies when implemented by mobile platforms, and to what extent it modifies the loyalty schemes towards consumers as well as third parties.

- The Best Paper Award of the 2nd International Conference on Smart Systems, Devices and Technologies (SMART 2013) went to Uschi Buchinger, Sven Lindmark and Olivier Braet for their paper “Business Model Scenarios for an Open Service Platform for Multi-Modal Electric Vehicle Sharing”. Based on a selection of scenarios, this paper provides insights into how new business models might emerge for electric mobility- and infrastructure providers. It presents the idea of integrating an Open Service Platform that handles data management and coordination tasks for all partners involved.

- The Best Paper Award of the 10th International Conference on e-Business (ICE-B 2013) went to Uschi Buchinger, Heritiana Ranaivoson and Pieter Ballon for their paper “Virtual Currency for Online Platforms – Business Model Implications”. The paper analyses how Virtual currencies affect platforms’ business models. It provides insights concerning how such Virtual currencies can play a role in the platform’s financial design.
