iMinds-SMIT senior researcher Yoni Van Den Eede has received the 'Harold A. Innis Award for Outstanding Thesis or Dissertation in the Field of Media Ecology' from the Media Ecology Association for his PhD dissertation 'Amor Technologiae: Marshall McLuhan as a Philosopher of Technology - Steps Toward a Philosophy of Human-Media Relationships'.

The Media Ecology Association (http://www.media-ecology.org) grew out of the work and teachings of Neil Postman, himself once a student of Marshall McLuhan. It promotes research in media ecology, being the study of 'media environments' and of how they interact, from a multidisciplinary angle. It has been awarding scholars and intellectuals for media ecology-related work in different fields since its inauguration. Among former awardees are Douglas Rushkoff, Barbie Zelizer, Joshua Meyrowitz, Kenneth J. Gergen, N. Katherine Hayles and William Gibson.
