After finishing her Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication Studies and Economics with excellent results at the University of Mannheim, Germany in 2011, Katharina graduated summa cum laude as Master of Science in Communication Studies in 2012. During this international Master program at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium, Katharina focused especially on critical issues in media economics and European media and communication markets.

Katharina joined SMIT as a researcher and PhD student in 2012. She is part of the Business Research Unit and is especially concerned with projects with a focus on the European as well as Flemish media markets. In her PhD work, Katharina concentrates on the theoretical and empirical assessment of complex platform ecosystem in the media and telecommunication industry as well as implications for their proper regulation. Currently, she is based as a visiting PhD student at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE) at the Department for Media and Communication in the UK.
