Dr. Francesca Spagnoli holds a Master Degree in Media & Communications and a PhD in Economics (Innovation Technology Management) from the University of Rome La Sapienza (2015), Italy. In her PhD work Francesca focused on the socio-economic impact assessment of cloud computing technologies for the Italian Ministry of the Economic Development. In 2013 she has been awarded by the European Commission as Young Researcher Ambassador for Italy within the context of the ICT 2013 Conference.
 
Francesca has worked as project manager and coordinator in several national and EU projects for governments, research centers and SMEs in different fields (transports, social innovation, sustainable development, environment, cultural heritage, big data, eScience, eInfrastructures, cloud computing and smart cities). She has been also the coordinator of the European Researchers’ Night in Italy from 2014 to 2017.
 
Francesca joined SMIT in 2017 where currently is leading the activities on tools, guidelines and support to the smart cities involved in the Synchronicity project. She is also involved in the High Impact Initiative and City of Things in Antwerp. Her research is concerned with socio-economic impact assessment of ICT, business models generation and citizen-centred co-creation methodologies.
